welcome, little brown baby

YOU'RE HERE RIGHT ON TIME.

Hello, you! The book Dear Little Brown Baby is a work created for brown babies of any age who have been made to feel less than simply as a result of the color of their skin, formation of their features, or texture of their hair far before any words are uttered or any character is realized.

THE LITTLE BROWN BABY INITIATING A MOVEMENT.

Dear Little Brown Baby was originally a poem written by author, Vashyanna Penn, in the 11th grade as a response to an environment that was less than pleasant.

"I grew up surrounded by folks who looked nothing like me. I was never allowed to bask in my tone. I would avoid the sun because I was ashamed of getting darker. I avoid the night because I fear being viewed as a threat. It is no easy thing to be alive in general—yet that becomes exacerbated when one enters this world with melanin."

This is the book every brown child needs to hear before their induction into the world. This is the book every brown adult needs to hear to validate that what is on the outside does indeed matter (as we have rarely been allowed to forget) and adds to the character of their overall self.
